Three measurements, one compact instrument—and a lot of engineering in the details.

Bluelab OnePen brings pH, conductivity and temperature measurement into one compact handheld product, with a replaceable probe and connected data capture. It is a small instrument with a surprising amount of engineering packed inside.

On this cross-functional development, I owned three key parts: the silicone-overmoulded front panel, the replaceable-probe design and the probe storage cap. For the front panel, I worked through the overmoulded construction and lifecycle testing. I developed the replaceable probe through physical prototypes, balancing form factor and usability with the realities of DFM.

The storage cap looked simple, but it was one of the most critical parts of the product. I took it through the full development process—research, concept and detailed design, prototyping, stress testing, DFM and manufacturing quality control. It was exactly the kind of deceptively small problem I enjoy solving.

OnePen launched as a robust all-in-one instrument, with the components I owned making the full journey from early development through validation and into production.
