Two emerging heating technologies, tested across real homes—not a controlled lab.
I managed the technical delivery of two FortisBC emerging-heating-technology pilots across approximately 40 occupied homes in British Columbia. It was engineering, project management and stakeholder coordination all at once—a valuable change of pace from conventional product development.
These were not controlled lab trials. Unfamiliar heating technologies had to be designed into, installed and monitored across real homes while we maintained reliable field data and a positive experience for the people living with the systems. Homeowners, contractors, suppliers and the utility client all needed different information, and technical issues rarely arrived on a tidy schedule.
As Measurement and Verification Project Manager, I owned the programmes from participant sourcing and system planning through mechanical schematics, installation, monitoring, issue resolution, data analysis and final reporting. I was also the main point of contact for approximately 40 homeowners, keeping communication and field work moving without losing sight of the technical detail.
Both pilots produced detailed evaluations of efficiency, installation challenges, homeowner experience and the practical considerations for future programme development.
